Our 4th grade students will be doing Algebra at the mall and learning beginning algebra.
Our 5th grade students will be doing Beyond Base 10 and learning about number base systems.
The following are done by both Grade levels:
Challenge Time and GIT(Generating Ideas Together)are
opportunities to practice creative problem solving techniques both
independently and in small groups. Students are presented with a
problem, generate many possible solutions, evaluate them for validity
and then present their thinking.
Daily Reflection Logs are completed at the end of each
day. Students reflect on their center work, plan what they wish to
accomplish in the next class and give insights into the thinking skills
they used that day.
Red Herring is a time where we work on questioning. Each student tries to solve a mystery only using yes and no questions.
Center time is an individualized time when students do research and pursue their interests.
Communication with Parents
Differentiated Services Plan (DSP) The
gifted education teacher and classroom teachers meet to devise a plan
of what differentiation is necessary for these gifted learners to
achieve desired academic outcomes in both the classroom and the SIGNET
room. These yearly plans will be sent home to parents in November.
Newletters contain information about units being studied in SIGNET as well as general information of importance for parents.
Student Progress Reports come home in the January and
June report card folders. They indicate progress towards achieving
goals of the gifted education program at the students' grade levels.
