Welcome to Everything Reading & Writing!

My name is Mrs. Diaz and I am the K-5 reading specialist at Victory Elementary School. My literacy role has a wide instructional range as I work with our youngest kiddos just starting the basics of literacy, all the way to our 5th graders composing persuasive writing pieces - I love it! Based on the needs of the school, my role at Victory fluctuates, but I typically work 1-on-1, with small groups, and with classroom teachers, in addition to managing PALS, literacy resources, and county LA instruction implementation.

I have been in education for almost 20 years including roles as 3rd grade reading and math teacher, K-5 literacy coach, K-8 county LA curriculum framework developer, middle school reading specialist, PALS program manager, and Reading Recovery teacher.

Throughout these years (and in between having 4 kiddos ;), I have made it a personal goal to stay current and learn as much about literacy as possible. I completed a Masters in Teaching (MAT), Masters in Education (M.Ed), National Board Certification in Literacy (NBCT), Reading Recovery Training, and a variety of other trainings and professional development in coaching and literacy. For the past few years, I have also been fortunate enough to attend the Shenandoah University Literature Conference to stay up-to-date with children's books, authors, and illustrators.

I am always available for parent questions regarding literacy. Parents can e-mail me questions or set up a time for a phone chat or meeting. Bring on your questions - big or small. ;) The way I see it, the discussion and answer could lead to improved literacy for your child... and that's always my goal.
