I hope everyone is having a wonderful November thus far. It is crazy how quickly this school year has flown by. Thank you to everyone who came to Conference Day ( or shall I saw week). It was great to have the time to chat with everyone and brag about all the wonderful things your children have been doing this far. The rest of the month of November will continue to be a crazy one. We have one full week where were will be buckling down and continuing on with our Weather Unit in Science. We will begin our third math unit on Number Sense and we will begin using mentor texts to write personal narratives in writing. We will have Word Study this week. Students will be tested on Friday. Please do not forget that next week will be short week. We will be in school both Monday and Tuesday but then we will be off in celebration of Thanksgiving for the remainder of the week. Please continue to read with your child each night. Thank you!
Welcome to October. It is crazy to think how quickly time has been going by. We are starting several new units this month. We will be having so much fun all month!
In reading, we are beginning to work on analyzing characters- their actions, thoughts and traits.
In writing, we are beginning our unit on fairy tales. We begin this unit by exploring several classic fairy tales.
In math, we are beginning our unit on geometry and shapes! We will be comparing both 2D and 3D shapes. We will create, design and explore different shapes throughout this unit.
In science, we will be conducting several hands on experiments! We will also study Columbus Day in preparation for next week's holiday!
A few reminders: There is no school on October 10th.
We will be visiting the planetarium on October 12th. Please send in $1.00 and the signed forms as soon as possible. Five parents were picked to join us. No worries if your name was not picked, there will be a second trip at the end of the school year.
Have a WONDERFUL October.
Hello There! - September
This webpage is finally up and running. I hope everyone is enjoying their first few weeks of school. Things are falling into place and classroom routines are becoming more and more established.
Please let me know if you are not receiving my updates through the Remind App. This is how I will communicate with any reminders or important group messages. If you need to contact me after school hours this is the best way to do so. My email (Salleyka@pwcs.edu) is also a way to get in touch. I try my best to respond within 24 hours.
This week we will be extremely busy!
In reading we will continue to establish Daily Five routines and expectations. Students will be practicing Read to Self, Read to Buddy, Word Work and Writing throughout the week. Students will also be meeting in small groups with me throughout Daily Five centers.
In writing we are beginning our unit on Small Moments. Students will be writing about a real event in their lives. We will continue to work on complete and incomplete sentences, as well as using correct ending marks.
In Social Studies we will continue to discuss how to be a good citizen and character traits of a good citizen.
In Math we will continue to work on basic addition facts. We are working to have these basic facts become automatic. Please work on these at home as well. We are also focusing on identifying coins, telling time to the half hour, and ordinal numbers.
I hope everyone has an amazing week! See you next week for Back to School night. :)
