Announcements for week of October 24th
We have another busy week planned in kindergarten! I can't wait!
Special reminders: We have spirit week (see the post below with reminders of what we are doing each day) and Field day on Friday. Please remember to have your child wear the color for their team that was put in their folders last week on field day (if you don't have it, just message me and I'll send it to you). Also remember to send in a water bottle with their name on it so they can bring it with them for field day. We are going to have a blast!
We will be learning to reading and writing a new sight word this week: see. Please continue to practice reading and writing the other words we have learned (we, I, my, the, is, a) to help reinforce what we are doing in class. We also will be listening to the sounds we hear at the beginning and end of words and trying our hand at "bubble gumming" (stretching) the sounds out to write the sounds we hear. In science we are starting our new unit on magnets. The kiddos always love exploring with them. We still have our floating station out for our water experiment from last week. They are becoming great scientist as they hypothesize about what they think will happen. In math we are finishing our unit on numbers 0-10. Your child should be able to tell what number is one more than another number up to 10, count to 20 and recognize and write the numbers 0-10. We have just begun to learn to count to 100 by 10s and I'm amazed at how many children can do this already! Please continue to practice counting by 1s to 100 as this will also be another skill we will be working on soon.
A HUGE thank you to our parent volunteers who have been coming in to help during our reading and writing block. They have been a huge help! Thank you for helping our children become the best that they can be!
Announcements for week of October 17th
We have a busy week planned! Monday we have an assembly by Omega Man - the kiddos will be really pumped after this :-) It is also our Character Counts week. Each day we will highlight one of the 6 pillars of character. Monday we will wear green for responsibility, Tuesday will be red for caring, Wednesday will be orange for fairness, Thursday will be purple for citizenship and Friday is blue for trust and respect. It is also Book Fair Week!! Our class will get to preview the books on Monday morning and we'll send home their "wish list". Look for a paper in their backpacks with directions if you would like to have your child purchase a book. Book Fair Family Night is Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm if you would like to come and browse. We will have an earthquake drill on Thursday. This week we will be learning the sight words "the" and "is". (we already know the words I, my, a, we) We will continue to practice recognizing & writing the letters G, H and I. We have been learning special motions for each letters sound. We have learned a, b, c, d and e so far, ask your child if they can show you. In writing we have been practicing planning our story, drawing a picture to go with it and making labels for our pictures. The kiddos have done an amazing job with this! Next we are going to try our hand at writing sentences. In math we have been practicing saying the number that is one more than another number, counting to 20, recognizing and writing the numerals 0-10. We just started learning how to count by 10s to 100. In Science we are finishing up our unit on matter. We have been learning about the 3 states of matter (solid, liquid and gas). This week we'll do some more fun experiments with these! Thanks for all your support! Have a wonderful day :-)
Hi families, just wanted to let you know that one of our classmates was diagnosed with a peanut and sesame seed allergy. Please make sure if you send in birthday snacks that will be shared with everyone that there are no peanuts in the item. Please also check to see that it was NOT made in a facility that uses peanuts. The best thing is to leave the label on the item so that I can check it :-) It is OK for your child to bring products that have nuts for lunch as we have a special peanut free table for children with allergies to sit at as long as they don't share their food with anyone else. Please remember that we can NOT bring peanut products for snack into our classroom. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks!
Getting the Year Off to a Great Start
Frequently Asked Questions….
Here are a few important reminders for the beginning of school:
* Your child will need to bring: school supplies that weren't dropped off earlier at school, a water bottle (sports top preferred), a set of extra clothes in a bag with their name on it to leave at school in case of an accident, a backpack, a snack (labeled as snack so there is no confusion with their lunch), lunch money or a packed lunch, and a BIG SMILE :-)
*Your child will bring home a yellow folder the first day of school. Please make sure this folder is returned to school each day. Please put all notes or lunch money inside the zipper pocket in the folder. We will check this folder daily.
*Our encore schedule is the same each week. Monday-P.E. (please make sure your child wears sneakers on these days), Tuesday-Library, Wednesday- P.E., Thursday-Art, Friday - Music
*Remember we will send your child home according to the dismissal form unless we receive a written note from you. Please no emails as substitute teachers will not receive them. If an emergency does arise you can call the school office and they will inform us of the change.
* Return all school forms (updates to emergency card, contact information & parent survey) no later than September 2nd. Please check that the forms are signed and filled out on both sides if necessary.
*Many parents want to drive their child to school the first day/week. The teachers recommend that you have your child go to and from school their regular way in order to establish the routine. Thanks so much for your help in this matter.
*If you have any questions or concerns please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org . Our day is very busy so I may not be able to respond until the children leave. If you need to contact me in an emergency please call the school office.
I'm looking forward to a great year!
See you soon!
